Thali-Authentic Indian Food In Reno

For a while now I’ve been scouring The Biggest Little City In The World for some authentic Indian food, “Maa Ke Haath Ka Khaana” which is a Hindi phrase for “Mom-made Food.” And finally, after digging around for awhile, I stumbled upon Thali.

IMG_8668Thali offers 100% organic vegetarian food and an experience like no other Indian restaurant in Reno. Its authenticity comes from the owners’ vision of serving completely organic, locally grown food and deliver an authentic experience to their customers. Serj, one of the owners, has pushed the limits by learning and practicing organic farming for a year before stepping into the restaurant business. They buy most of their groceries from the Great Basin Community Food Co-Op , which sells locally-grown food and is community-owned.

“Reduce carbon footprint” says Serj.

It has been estimated that 13% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions result from the production and transport of food. Eating locally-grown and organic food can reduce that to a great extent. That being said, time to assess-

  • Taste : This place is the real-deal. The Chef is none other than Serj’s mom!So this place literally serves mom-made food, and it tastes lip-smacking good!  5/5
  • Dining : The food is served in a thali (plate) and you’re given a choice to use cutlery or your hands. Want the real experience? Go with the second option! 5/5
  • Value for money : I wouldn’t say the food was inexpensive, but it was worth the money! FYI: It’s unlimited! 4/5

  • Service quality : Awesome service! 5/5
  • Ambiance : Good vibes and great music. 4/5
  • Parking : Shouldn’t be too hard to find a spot. 3/5

P.S: They’re open only on Fridays and Saturdays 6-9 PM and runs at a place called Cafe De Luxe off  S. Wells Avenue. And the best way to wrap-up your meal is with a glass of cold mango lassi(yogurt)! YUMM!

Think you can cook Indian food? They feature guest specials once a month. Sign up!

This place is a must-try especially if you’ve been craving some good Indian food.
